Description

1967 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Drop Head Coupe by Mulliner Park Ward, the predeccesor to the Corniche. The Corniche name was officially adopted in March 1971 for the continued two-door models, but the early cars (1966–1971) were marketed as Silver Shadow two-door saloon or Drophead Coupé by Mulliner Park Ward. The Silver Shadow DHC benefits from self-levelling hydraulic suspension, disc brakes all round, and a smooth 6.2-litre (6230cc) V8 engine producing around 220 hp, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

These cars were the absolute pinnacle of luxury vehicles of the late 1960s, offering supreme comfort, sophistication, and presence for open-top grand touring. The cars were the ultimate in "Swinging Sixties" style, and a status symbol for A-listers. Stars such as Sir Michael Caine, Paul McCartney, Frank Sinatra. Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin all owned one at the time.

Around 505 MPW Drophead Coupés were built with just 109 built as RHD, and a very small handful (as with 3445) built without "P" (for Park) on the gear selector. Only a very few 1966 and 1967 early cars were built to this specification. Unconfirmed numbers of less than 30 have been mentioned amongst knowledgeable RR circles.

This Car (CRH3445)

Ordered on 26 September 1967 and supplied new by Jack Barclay Ltd of Conduit Street, London W1 to its first owner, a Mr. A.F. Roger Esq on 22 January 1968. The car was ordered in Regal Red Metallic, cream leather hides, cream single fineline and dark red carpets, exactly how the car presents today.

The car was exported the following year we believe to the Cote'd Azur for the first twenty years of its life, before returning to the UK in 1989 with c81k miles on the clock. It was temporarily registered as 5060 FD and records show the car returned white. Over the following few years the car passed through a small number of UK collectors before moving to Cheshire in 2002 where it stayed for the following 21 years amassing miniscule mileage. The car has only covered 14k in 37 years.

It was during this period of prolonged ownership the car underwent an enormous restoration which included mechanicals such as the hydraulic brakes and suspension, transmission a complete strip and respray back to its period correct colour of Regal Red, a completely retrmimed leather interior in correct shade of cream, brakes, tyres, window regulators etc. way too much to list here, but makes interesting reading in the volumnous history folder which dates back to the late 80s, inc many old MOT certificates. There are invoices for the care of this car totalling over £50k in 20 years.

In just the last year, there are invoices for over £19k worth of servicing and repair work. Way too much to list, but hood, battery, fuel pump, seat motors, brakes discs and pads, back axle, drive shafts, suspension bushes, track control arsm steering column, window regulators have all been replaced. This year it has had a new battery and a service including plugs.

The paintwork and condition of this car would easily be described as excellent with no rust and very minimal signs of age. Considering the restoration was done in 2005 it shows this car has been used sparingly. Same goes for the interior which has benefited from a complete leather retrim, new Wilton carpets throughout and the hood blining being replaced. The car still has the wonderful smell of fresh leather. The hood is in perfect condition and the motor and hydraulic mechanism moves up and down with ease and precision. There is also a lovely matching cream leather tonneau cover for the hood, and the car also has a red indoor car cover.

The car was last serviced in April 2026 and a clean MOT passed in May 2026 without advisories.

This Silver Shadow DHC has to be one of the loveliest in existance today, perfect and ready to be enjoyed this summer.

Viewing by appointment in Esher, Surrey.
